IT’S BACK-TO-SCHOOL SEASON

Can you believe it’s August already? We’ve only been to the beach twice this summer (mostly because of you know, the PANDEMIC)!

Well, I know this is a busy month for many parents as you get ready for back to school. Except, this year the Coronavirus has thrown a major curveball for many of you.

We are year-round homeschoolers and I’ve never really done a “Back-to-School” tradition here in our homeschool.

(Note to self: Start a “Back-to-School” or “First Day of …” tradition for our homeschool).

Whether your children are going back to school, doing distance learning, or maybe homeschooling this year, I’ve got a little FREEBIE for you just to make this year’s Back-to-School or First Day of Kindergarten a little special.

    FREE BACK-TO-SCHOOL PRINTABLE SIGNS

I’m busy enough as a stay-at-home homeschool mom.

There are meals to cook, laundry to wash & fold, house to clean, and humans to keep alive. Oh! And yes, kids to educate. 😄

How on earth do I find time to create FREE printables for strangers on the internet? Check out how I plan my week here.

Well, if you’ve been a stay-at-home parent or homeschooling parent for a few years, you just may know this yearning that we have to just do something other than homeschool and cleaning the house.

This blog is my creative outlet, a place where I can actually stretch my brain a little.

So, without further ado or yappin’ here are the printables.

MY FIRST DAY OF {GRADE LEVEL} CHALKBOARD SIGN

Free Chalkboard First Day of School Signs
Please note that image quality has been reduced, actual printable’s resolution is higher.

    Grade levels available:

    • Preschool
    • Kindergarten
    • 1st Grade
    • 2nd Grade
    • 3rd Grade
    • 4th Grade
    • 5th Grade

I didn’t make for 6th grade and above because I feel that maybe middle and high schoolers may find this a bit kid-ish.

If you need one for higher grade levels, please shoot me an email at: shirley(at)mylearntogether(dot)com and I can create one for you.

These printables are set to 8″x10″ print size. This way if you want to frame it, the frame won’t cover the words.

I would use cardstock paper like this because of the chalkboard background there will be a lot of gray/black ink used. Regular printing paper will just soak up all that ink.

To “fill-in-the-blanks,” I used chalkpens like these.

If you don’t have those, just use a WHITE CRAYON. They will do just fine.

HOW I SAVE ON PRINTING PRINTABLES

As a homeschool mom on a budget, I try to find free printables online.

Some are not worth my time or ink to print, but to be honest there are actually quite a lot of decent quality printables for homeschoolers that are either free or cheap.

When, my SECOND Canon Pixma printer died on me I was ready to switch to a different brand.

I was changing the ink cartridge every other month, and you know those really add up.

My mom said she was listening to Kim Komando on the radio and she was talking about a printer that could save you a lot on ink.

That printer, my friend, is the Epson ET-2750 EcoTank All-in-One Supertank Printer.

    Best Homeschool Printer Epson EcoTank

I purchased it in the summer of 2018 and this beast is still going strong.

I haven’t had to refill the ink YET. That’s 2 years of not buying any ink cartridges or ink refills guys.

Not only does this save me money, but it saves me TIME.

I’ve printed many worksheets for the kiddos, preschool and kindergarten curriculum, normal home office printing, and for 1 year I was printing crafts and coloring sheets for our Sabbath School (like Sunday school) at church when I taught the Beginner’s class.

TO FRAME OR NOT TO FRAME

    Totally up to you.

If you want to go the extra mile, look for a frame  around the house.

If you don’t have one around Dollar Tree carries these Two Toned Black Matted Frames and Simply White Frames for $1 each.

Another place to find nice frames for cheap is Michael’s or Hobby Lobby (don’t forget to use your coupon and if shopping online make sure you have Rakuten activated for cash back).

    YOU GOT THIS!

I know this year has been a hot mess, but you got this!

Deep breath, ok, another deep breath now put everything aside for just maybe 15 minutes.

If you want to frame it, go ahead. But, you don’t have to.

Now, you are all set for those cute First Day of School pictures.
